Boot on the other foot this time as Harrogate share the points again

Last-minute recoveries had earned their previous two draws and they must have thought they were going to win this time when they scored a converted try in the last minute of normal time.

Debutant full-back Jon Dawes kicked Harrogate into the lead. but Adam Canning struck back with a penalty before he converted after second-row Chris Goddard crashed over. Canning extended the lead with a penalty but Harrogate’s Luke Edwards scythed through for a converted try.

Dawes missed a difficult kick in the final move of the first half but he levelled the scores soon after the interval.

The match swung from end to end but, in the 80th minute, Sam Bottomley forced his way over on the left and Joe Rowntree’s touchline conversion put Harrogate into a seemingly unassailable lead only for Goddard to score his second try and Canning the equalising conversion.

Promotion-chasing Hull Ionians kept the pressure on leaders Ampthill with a 38-0 home victory over Leicester Lions.

Ionians adapted better to the wet conditions and secured a five-point victory.

Scrum-half Isaac Green kicked Ionians into the lead, and he converted following a 27th-minute try from No 8 Alex Campbell. Green was again on target just before the break following Campbell’s second try which helped put the hosts 17-0 ahead.

Ionians scored a penalty try on the hour mark, which stand-off James Ferguson converted. Replacement Adam Thomas then crashed over to secure a four-try bonus point, Ferguson converting. Josh Thundercliffe battled his way over on 76 minutes and Green added the extras.

Winger Harry Hudson scored a hat-trick of tries as Otley overcame early resistance from visitors Hull to win 30-0.

Scrum-half Stephen Depledge eased Otley ahead with penalties on 17 and 30 minutes before Hudson scored his first before the break.

He scored his second seven minutes into the second half and the forwards, to mark their growing supremacy, drove over from a scrum for No 8 Freddie Watson to score before Hudson completed his hat-trick.

Huddersfield crashed to a shock 27-18 defeat at bottom club Stockport, the home side’s first win of the season.

After taking the lead with two penalties from Chris Bell, Huddersfield were rocked as Stockport ran in three triesand led 27-6 at the break.

Huddersfield replacements Tom Bills and Gareth Lewis crossed and Bell added a conversion but the gap proved too big.
