LEEDS STAR Josh Warrington will defend his WBC International Featherweight title at the O2 in London on December 12 when he fights unbeaten Panamanian Jorge Sanchez.

Warrington makes his second defence of the title he won in April against Dennis Tubeiron, having defeated Australian Joel Brunker at a packed out First Direct Arena in Leeds back in September.

The Garforth-based man will face a stiff test to end his year on a high as Sanchez, known as ‘El Bufalo’, will be aiming to take the title away from the champion and record a tenth win inside the distance in his 16th pro outing.

A showdown with Welsh IBF king Lee Selby is the target for Warrington in 2016, and the 25-year-old says the pressure is on to end the year in impressive fashion.

“Sanchez will be my fourth fight of the year and I want to end 2015 with a big statement in London,” said Warrington.

“The fights with Tubeiron and Brunker in Leeds were tough ones and I am sure this will be a really hard fight – but it’s on a massive Box Office card that will be getting huge attention, so I need to put in a top performance.

“Selby beat Brunker at The O2 and then won his World title there against Evgeny Gradovich, so it’s a good venue for me to show that I am coming for his title in 2016.”

Warrington’s clash with Sanchez is part of a stacked Box Office bill at The O2 where bitter heavyweight rivals Anthony Joshua MBE and Dillian Whyte clash for the British and Commonwealth Heavyweight titles.

Chris Eubank Jr and Spike O’Sullivan meet in a final eliminator for the WBA World Middleweight title, Kevin Mitchell meets Ismael Barroso for the WBA Interim Lightweight title with the winner facing newly crowned WBA supremo Anthony Crolla, Liverpool Cruiserweight favourite Tony Bellew faces Mateusz Masternak, while Hull’s Luke Campbell MBE also features.
