Olympic boxing hopeful Jack Bateson looks to add a second national title to his cv this weekend – and seal his spot at the Commonwealth Games.
The 19-year-old from Leeds heads to Liverpool hoping to add the flyweight title to the light-flyweight crown he won 12 months ago.
He said: “It will set me up for the Commonwealth Games and obviously if you do well there that gives you a good platform leading to Rio 2016.
“It’s about getting the ball rolling for other big events.”
Bateson is the second seed in Liverpool, with his quarter-final tonight.
If everything goes to plan, he will meet top-ranked Briton Charlie Edwards in Sunday’s final.
Bateson is one of three Leeds boxers in action at the Echo Arena alongside light flyweight Oliver Simpson and bantamweight Qais Ashfaq.
