Bradford & Bingley 24 Hull 31: Hat-tricks for Ford and Tony as Hull provide late sting to sink Bees

A thoroughly entertaining 80 minutes at Wagon Lane saw the Bees come off second best in a game which could have gone either way.

The game summed up the Bees' season in many ways as the home side were equal to their opposition in every aspect of the game yet could not quite press home their early advantage to claim a victory.

A crucial turning point came on the hour mark when a comment made by Bees flanker Guy Ford to a Hull player by the posts was interpreted by the referee as a remark addressed to him and the penalty which would have allowed the home side to clear their lines was reversed and James Cameron slotted the three points to bring his side level at 24 points each.

Both sides had a player who claimed a hat-trick as the irrepressible Ford for the Bees and the livewire Josefo Tony for the visitors crossed for three scores.

Ford was all power and brute force, Tony was all about pace and capitalising on slick hands from his team-mates.

The Bees dominated the first quarter and Hull took the spoils in the second.

The second half was nip and tuck but the visitors just had the edge in the final 10 minutes and it was the Tony and Cameron double act which just won the day for Hull.

The Bees' fight to stay in this league continues with a visit to Kendal next week.
