Bradford City v Stevenage: Cup heroics help Syers to clinch deal

League two: DAVID SYERS'S Carling Cup heroics for Bradford City have proved enough to earn the midfielder a one-year contract.

The 22-year-old signed the deal yesterday after impressing on his

Bantams bow in the midweek 2-1 defeat of Nottingham Forest.

Syers, who netted City's equaliser against the Championship outfit, will earn a 12-month extension to his contract if he makes 20 starts this season.

Bradford have also reserved the right to extend the deal come next summer.

Syers, who was able to play against Forest after signing on non-contract terms earlier in the day, spent last season in Conference North with Farsley Celtic and Harrogate Town.

Manager Peter Taylor is hoping the Carling Cup win can inspire his players to make Valley Parade a place that opposing sides fear this season, starting today when Stevenage Borough, who Taylor used to manage, are the visitors.
