Breaking: Doncaster sign Matt Kilgallon

FORMER Leeds United and Sheffield United defender Matt Kilgallon has agreed to join Doncaster Rovers on loan until the end of the season.

Kilgallon, 27, is currently with Sunderland but had spent the first half of this season on loan at Middlesbrough.

Manager Sean O'Driscoll needed to strengthen in defence because of injuries to Shelton Martis and Wayne Thomas.

Rovers chairman John Ryan said: "We're delighted to welcome Matt to Doncaster Rovers.

"The major shareholders of the board have once again clubbed together to show ambition by bringing in another player of Premier League quality."

York-born Kilgallon, who began his career at Leeds and made his first-team debut at Elland Road in 2004, moved on to Sheffield United in 2007 and made more than 100 appearances before joining Sunderland for a fee in the region of 2million in January 2010.

But the former England Under-21 international struggled to settle on Wearside and in August agreed to go out on loan to Middlesbrough, for whom he has featured on only three occasions this season.
