Breaking: Ennis breaks British record

Jessica Ennis continued her brilliant start to the indoor season by breaking the British 60 metres hurdles record at the Aviva International Match in Glasgow.

The world heptathlon gold medallist from Sheffield produced an immaculate display to post the fastest time in the world this year of 7.95 seconds - beating world indoor champion Lolo Jones in the process.

Ennis and her American rival were neck and neck until Ennis, running as a guest in the race, powered away to win by 0.02secs with Caroline Nytra of Germany third in 8.08secs.

It was the second time this month Ennis has lowered her 60m hurdles personal best after she claimed the previous two-year-old UK record belonging to Sarah Claxton.

Claxton, returning to fitness after injury wrecked her summer season last year and representing the British side today, had to settle for fourth position in a time of 8.20secs.
