Breaking: Owls swoop to sign Rovers striker

PAUL Heffernan has become Sheffield Wednesday's third summer recruit in as many days.

The experienced striker, out of contract with Doncaster Rovers, has agreed a two-year deal at Hillsborough and will be an official Owls player on 1 July.

Heffernan brings a prolific record in the final third to S6, with the Dubliner having struck 102 goals in 217 senior starts.

The 27-year-old began his career with Notts County in 1999 before moving firstly to Bristol City and then Doncaster. He has also enjoyed loan spells with Oldham and Bristol Rovers.

Owls manager Alan Irvine is delighted to add the hitman to his squad and said: "Paul's goalscoring record speaks for itself. Goalscorers tend to stay consistent and I am sure that Paul will score goals for Sheffield Wednesday.

"I've done my homework on him as well and he certainly has the character to play for a club this size."

Heffernan added: "I've been talking to a number of clubs but as soon as I found out about the interest from Sheffield Wednesday, my mind was made up.

"This is a massive football club and I can't wait to meet the rest of the lads and get started."
