Broken arm rules Pacha out for Stingrays

HULL STINGRAYS have been dealt a severe blow early in their Elite League season after being told player-coach Omar Pacaha will be out for up to two months with a broken arm.

The 27-year-old defenceman suffered the injury during the first period of Saturday’s 5-2 league defeat at home to Edinburgh Capitals.

The Canadian – installed as Sylvain Cloutier’s successor in the summer – sat out Sunday night’s game against Dundee Stars, when his side won 5-4 in overtime to pick up their first win of the campaign.

But X-rays on Monday morning confirmed the club’s worst fears when it was determined he had in fact fractured his arm.

“It is hugely disappointing and not a situation I wanted,” said Pacha.

“But that’s life, it is what it is.

“It is the first time in my pro career I have been injured and I guess if it was going to happen, it happens now early in the season.

“I will now focus on coming back stronger and being out there helping the team win some games from November-December and beyond.”
