Brown challenges Giants to avenge Wembley heartache

HUDDERSFIELD Giants coach Nathan Brown has reminded his squad ahead of today's Carnegie Challenge Cup fifth-round tie with holders Warrington Wolves that there can be no place for hiding.

Their opponents, who beat Huddersfield in last year's final at Wembley, are already buoyed by a Super League victory at Galpharm Stadium earlier this season.

They return having run in 156 points during their last three matches alone and – although that haul did arrive against part-timers Featherstone Rovers, Super League's bottom team Catalans and included a clinical 68-12 destruction of Salford City Reds at Magic Weekend – Brown is aware Warrington's stellar array of talent could easily end his squad's hopes of progressing to the quarter-final.

"It should be exciting and there's no doubt that they are going to come here and want to play football," he said, knowing their rivals are also set to be cheered on by an army of traveling fans who could out-number the home side's support.

"They like to move the ball around and have plenty of exciting players," he said.

"Warrington have scored a lot of points recently and they haven't conceded all that many either so I'm sure they would expect to go quite well.

"They will be looking forward to the game every bit as much as we are; it's the Challenge Cup and its knockout football.

"But in games like this you can't be carrying players. You need everyone to show up and 17 blokes contributing in a solid way for the team – you can't have people off speed."

Huddersfield welcome back Darrell Griffin and Jamahl Lolesi from the side that lost against Wigan in Edinburgh while captain Brett Hodgson – who joins Warrington at the end of the season – is a surprise inclusion in the 19-man squad.

The reigning Man of Steel, who has missed the last two games, was not expected back from injury for at least another week although his naming may be an old-fashioned bluff.

The Giants, who yesterday announced assistant coach Paul Anderson has signed a new two-year deal, are definitely without David Fa'alogo after he injured a hamstring in training while Warrington see Matt King, Mick Higham, Paul Wood and Richard Mathers all return.

Former Huddersfield star Paul March is hoping to cause a shock by leading Hunslet Hawks into tomorrow's quarter-final draw.

His Championship One leaders are distinct underdogs as they head to Barrow tomorrow to face the Championship Grand Final winners who booked their spot by stunning Castleford Tigers.

But March said: "I don't see why we cannot do to Barrow what they did to Castleford and beat a side who are favourites."

At least one more Yorkshire club will definitely proceed as Halifax tackle Batley Bulldogs in an intriguing fifth-round tie at The Shay tomorrow.

The West Yorkshire derby victors are hoping to set up a decent pay-day against a Super League club at the quarter-final stage.
