Cameron is on target to get Hull off the mark

Harrogate looked the sharper, more committed side throughout and won 39-12 at home to Bromsgrove.

Though they lost Chris Wilson to a back injury, a try by Sam Bottomley and two penalties from Joe Rowntree gave Harrogate an 11-0 interval lead.

In the second half, Jimmy Browne returned from a long injury break but Bromsgrove centre James Young crashed over for a well-taken try. Harrogate responded with tries from Bottomley, Maycock and Harry Parrish before Bromsgrove’s Jonathon Critchlow converted his own try before Luke Edwards darted through for Harrogate’s final try, converted by Irvine.

With 10 successive home wins behind them, Preston Grasshoppers recorded a 37-22 win over Otley.

Visiting fly-half Mark Ireland struck three penalties, two after centre John Ward’s try was converted by Lewis Allen.

Preston’s7 Edward Webster and Dominic Moon crossed before the break and Alexander Austin also went over before Ireland kicked a penalty and converted a penalty try. Allen and Ireland traded penalties before Moon’s try settled the result.

Hull notched their first league win of the season when they beat hosts Dudley Kingswinford 25-20.

A try from winger Dominic Lespierre and a conversion and a penalty from James Cameron put Hull 10-0 ahead before James Connor made it 10-5 at the break.

Harrison Lloyd touched down in the second half, and although Gareth Bown kicked a penalty for Dudley, Hull extended their lead with Cameron adding a penalty and converting an interception try from Ben Dorrington.

A late flurry enabled Dudley to salvage a losing bonus point.

Sheffield Tigers gave leaders Stourbridge a scare, and salvaged a losing bonus point from a 17-14 defeat at Dore Moor.

Two penalties by Will Carrington and a try from Peter Swatkins stunned the visitors before Chris Depper ran in two tries before the break.

Carrington’s drop goal was all that Tigers could muster in the second half.
