Cameron on target as Robinson marks his Hull debut with try

Hull cruised to a comfortable win over struggling Broadstreet.

The home side got off to a fine start with a third-minute penalty from fly-half James Cameron before a cross-kick to the right corner from him was palmed over the dead ball line by a Broadstreet defender, resulting in Hull being awarded a penalty try which Cameron converted.

Hull were dominating the mid-field but without any penetration and in a rare attack, Broadstreet were awarded a penalty which Dan Richards converted .

Cameron kicked his second penalty for a 10-3 lead but in stoppage time, Greg Summers intercepted to race 60 yards for a try which Richards converted.

Hull began the second period with two more penalties from Cameron before a 70-yard move involving Laurence Pearce and Matt White saw full-back Nick Gandy score for Cameron to add the extras. Flanker Darren Wigg then scored in the left corner to make it 28-10.

Broadstreet replied through Nick Thatcher's try before Gandy scored his second try after 75 minutes following a 100-yard move which he had started. Cameron converted.

Hull substitute scrum-half Will Robinson marked his debut in the 78th minute with a searing 60-yard run from a ruck to score a fine individual try before another from Broadstreet's Greg Summers in stoppage time which Richards converted.

Hull Ionians 0

Hull Ionians were always going to be under pressure at promotion-chasing Macclesfield but at least came off the field with praise from their hosts for playing their part for the full 80 minutes and being only the second club not to have capitulated there in the final quarter.

Ionians had the wind-driven fine rain at their backs for the first half but Macclesfield's power created an opening in just three minutes, strong-running flanker Dan Baines put through.

Ionians saw a long-range penalty attempt from Joe Wright drift wide and their clearance kicks were blown back into play down the middle, making touch finding difficult.

Macclesfield left wing Matt O'Regan squeezed in on 20 minutes and lock Matt Owen powered over on 35, Ross Winney at last adding a goal.

After the break, Ionians camped on the Macclesfield line for 10 minutes, crossing it twice but not being awarded a try, even though Chris Starling appeared to put the ball on the line from the second drive.

Macclesfield's power and support play brought tries from lock Alan Marsh, replacement Chris Jones and full-back Fergus Mulchrone with Winney only converting once.
