Carter maintains lead despite error

CYCLING: Sheffield-based cyclo-cross ace Adela Carter still leads the National Trophy Series despite having a disappointing day in round four of the prestigious event, staged at Moorways Leisure Centre in Derby.

The WXC MTB Racing Team rider missed her gridding time and then crashed during the race, but held on to the yellow jersey of series leader by just four points after finishing fourth.

Stourbridge CC dominated the women’s race with riders finishing first, second and third – led home by Louise Robinson.

In other categories, Keighley’s Joe Moses held on to the series lead in the junior event despite having to settle for second behind National champion Hugo Robinson. Moses (Paul Milnes-Bradford Olympic) was just 20 seconds behind Robinson after his rival had attacked on the third lap.

Skipton’s Chris Young (Wheelbase) was third in the over-40s race, and brother Mike Young (Pedalsport CC) was fifth.

Elsewhere, there was some top cyclo-cross action at the Graves Tennis and Leisure Centre in Sheffield where professional road rider Rob Partridge (Endura Racing) won the senior race.

He was just 25 seconds ahead of 32-year-old Matt Buckingham of Penistone (Team Cystic Fibrosis), while Mirfield veteran Marcus Spencer (Hargroves Cycles) was third, about a minute off the pace.
