Challinor returns with heavy haul of awards

SARAH Challinor, riding Sue Hughes's seven-year-old Dartmoor stallion Pumphill Buckthorn, took the first Horse of the Year Show ridden mountain and moorland qualifier and championship at the West Midlands Stallion Show at Malvern and went on to take the Hayes Gold Cup Ridden Supreme.

Sarah also won the BSPS Winter Championship at Grantham taking the Heritage Royal International qualifier, champion and supreme section. She was second and reserve champion at Hereford Marches.

Jack Starkie booked his ticket for the International and was also champion at Hereford Marches and second at the BSPS Winter Championships.

Starkie was champion at the Ponies UK Northern Championships with nine-year-old stallion Pumphill Bennett.

Buckthorn and Bennett are both bred by David Hinde from Aberford out of the 1999 Wembley Supreme in hand pony Pumphill Belladonna.

Ellena Thomas was second in the winter novice Heritage with the five-year-old Pumphill Banter by Senruf Jetsam out of Madge and Paul Taylor's Langfield Beth. Yasmin Russo and Morgan Starkie were also successful in the lead rein/first ridden with Pumphill Cascart.

At the first Dartmoor Pony Society Star Show in Malvern, Nicola, Philip and Katy Tyler from Pickhill clinched the two/three-year-old reserve championship with the three-year-old Springwater Nijinsky by Moortown Hawkwind out of Vean Isadora, shown by Craig Elenor.

Katy won the yearling section with Springwater Anna by Springwater Intermezzo.
