Chance of action aided by Titans' volunteers

PLAYERS and supporters of Rotherham Titans have spent the last two evenings clearing the Clifton Lane pitch of snow as the club attempts to stage a game of rugby for the first time in over a month.

The weekend's fixture with high-flying Exeter was initially scheduled for today but has been moved back to tomorrow (2.00) to allow a further 24 hours for the pitch to recover.

Head coach Craig West, whose side were last in action at London Welsh before Christmas, said: "I'd like to extend a massive thank you to all the players and supporters who volunteered their time to clearing the pitch.

"While the efforts were not enough to guarantee that the fixture would get the green light it has certainly increased the chance for Sunday."

Rotherham ended Exeter's promotion challenge with victory in the correspondigng fixture last season and after three straight defeats, the Titans will be hoping to pull off a repeat shock.

Wharfedale's National One match at bottom-club Manchester is subject to a 9am pitch inspection today. If the pitch is deemed unplayable, the two teams will try again tomorrow (2.00).

Otley's trip to London to face Blackheath is on after the hosts' pitch passed a Friday afternoon inspection.
