Clark acknowledges Steelers line mates

Sheffield Steelers’ forward Neil Clark says his career-high points tally is largely down to the quality of his team-mates.

The 29-year-old Canadian is currently joint-top goalscorer for the Elite League leaders, plundering 34 goals from 52 games, while adding 30 assists.

It comfortably eclipses any of his previous seasons’ stats, although he is quick to admit that the additional ice time given to imports in the UK game compared to what they would expect in North America plays a major part – along with the quality of the players alongside him.

“It’s been great playing on the same line as people like (player-coach) Ben Simon – you can see that my stats have gone through the roof,” said Clark.

“Things have been happening for me here and it’s down to the likes of Ben, Rob Globke and Jeff Legue who are some of the best players in the league.”

Steelers will hope to extend their seven-point lead at the top of the standings when they welcome the Dundee Stars to the Motorpoint Arena tonight (7.30pm).
