Clark lined up to face Barbarians

Leeds Academy product Callum Clark is one of several uncapped players in the England squad for Sunday’s match against the Barbarians at Twickenham.

The 21-year-old flanker left Leeds Carnegie last season and has had a stellar first campaign for Northampton which culminated in a Heineken Cup final defeat.

The rookie contingent also includes Exeter flanker Tom Johnson, two 20-year-old props in Harlequins’ Joe Marler and Newcastle’s Kieran Brookes, and promising Sedburgh School graduate Carl Fearns.

The group also features 11 players with senior England experience, among them Halifax-born fly-half Charlie Hodgson and another former Sedburgh pupil James Simpson-Daniel.

England Saxons head coach and former Leeds boss Stuart Lancaster takes charge of preparations for the non-cap game. No players from Premiership finalists Leicester or Saracens were considered.

Just hours after being released by Hull KR, Willie Mason made his expected switch to Toulon RU and revealed he could play his first game of rugby union for the Barbarians on Sunday.

Former Leeds captain Marco Wentzel yesterday joined Wasps following his release by Carnegie.

Brett Davey has continued his recruitment drive at Doncaster Knights with the acquisition of Leinster Academy forward Michael Noone.
