SYLVAIN Cloutier has moved quickly to overcome a minor recruitment setback for Hull Stingrays by snapping up Canadian-born forward Carl Lauzon.

American Sean Muncy, 28, had agreed earlier in the summer to join up with the Elite League club, but last week informed player-coach Cloutier that he was staying at home.

With an empty slot on his roster to fill, Cloutier has swooped for Montreal-born Lauzon, who has spent the last five seasons on France.

Lauzon posted 54 points (13 goals and 41 points) in 31 regular-season and play-off games for Chamonix last term, finishing as the league’s fourth-highest scorer. In three seasons with the club, he has registered 138 regular-season and play-off points (55 goals and 83 assists) in 94 appearances.

“Unfortunately,Sean will not be joining us now, but I am really pleased to be able to pick up Carl,” said Cloutier.

“He played on the same team as (new defenceman) Omar Pacha last year and he is a skilled player who will add a lot of offence to the line-up.

“He also played against Guillaume Doucet (another new recruit for Stingrays) last season and both players had nothing but good things to say about him.

“Carl averaged a point and a half in the French league and he is someone who produces in the post-season too.”
