Colchester United v Sheffield Wednesday: O'Connor puts points ahead of performance

League one: SHEFFIELD Wednesday midfielder James O'Connor is impressed with the character of the club's new players.

Manager Alan Irvine made nine new signings over the summer in a bid to revive a squad that had just been relegated to League One.

O'Connor said: "Everyone has an opinion of why we were relegated but it is important that we go and win more games this season.

"There were countless times last season where we were the better team but came off getting beat. That's been a major plus so far – not playing as well as we would have liked, but still winning the games."

The Owls will be looking to record a third consecutive victory at Colchester United.

"We have to make sure our attitude and work-rate is spot on this season," added O'Connor. "If we do that, we should have a good chance. Colchester will be organised and they will make it tough but we have to concentrate on ourselves."
