Comfortable for Hendry and Williams

Former world champions Stephen Hendry and Mark Williams both opened with 3-0 wins at the 12BET.com World Open challenge in Glasgow yesterday.

Home favourite Hendry saw off Bjorn Haneveer thanks to breaks of 55 and 76 as he sought to turn around his unconvincing early-season form.

Williams looked even more impressive, runs of 80 and 96 helping him see off Brazil's Igor Figueiredo in just 38 minutes.

"To win 3-0 is all you can ask for," said seven-times world champion Hendry, who will play Mark Davis in the last 32.

"The drive here took longer than the match and it's nice to come through unscathed."

Next up for Williams is in-form Ali Carter.

Dave Harold stunned Shaun Murphy by beating the former world champion 3-0 .

Neither player could find any fluency in a scrappy opening frame which lasted 37 minutes, but Harold won it and went on to claim the second with a break of 67.

And a run of 76 was enough to claim victory for the veteran Stoke potter.

Peter Ebdon also progressed as he beat Steve Davis 3-1.
