Cricket latest: Yorkshire increase lead at Old Trafford

ADIL RASHID and Azeem Rafiq ended with nine wickets between them as Yorkshire moved into a 200-run lead in their LV= County Championship Division One clash with Lancashire at Old Trafford.

Rashid, who went on England's tour of South Africa last year, finished with 5-90 off 38.5 overs with Rafiq taking 4-92 off 30 overs.

By close of play, the visitors had reached 111-3 with Anthony McGrath reaching 50 not out.

The Red Rose county had closed on 187-6 on Tuesday night, in response to Yorkshire's 447 all out, and needed to reach 298 to avoid the follow on.

Their chances of doing so appeared slim when they slipped to 235-8, but a stand of 121 by Kyle Hogg and Luke Sutton saw Lancashire home as they were all out for 358.

Yorkshire's Adam Lyth - who made 100 in the first innings - had the chance to become the first man to reach 1,000 Championship runs for the summer when the visitors came out for their second innings.

But, having seen captain Jacques Rudolph edge Powell behind to Sutton in the fourth over, he later pulled Hogg down Stephen Moore's throat at deep backward square leg for 29, leaving him 18 short of the milestone.
