All-rounder Young spearheads revival

ECB YorkshireTHE task of catching undefeated York may be beyond them, but Castleford have produced a satisfying run of six successive wins in league and cup, with all-rounder Chris Young to the fore.

Young took second billing with the bat to Shaun Le Roux in Castleford's eight-wicket victory at Driffield but his 86 followed an undefeated 60 at Sheffield United. Le Roux, whose undefeated 103 contained 13 fours and three sixes, had a second-wicket partnership of 180 with Young, who also shone with the ball by taking 3-39.

Ben Cadmore's century for Driffield included 13 fours and two sixes, adding 104 for the third wicket with opener Sam Drury.

Harrogate all-rounder Vic Craven is in a rich vein of form as Yorkshire Academy found to their cost at St George's Road. Craven made it 14 wickets from his last three games, combining with fellow medium pacer Ben Biker to oust the Academy for 67 in 27.4 overs. Harrogate duly won by seven wickets in 18.2 overs to register their fourth successive league victory.

Inconsistent Appleby Frodingham were five-wicket winners against visitors Sheffield Collegiate, for whom Nadeem Khan and Tom Hancock put on 74 for the eighth wicket. Ed McKenna included eight boundaries in his 63 for Collegiate, but Jaco Scholtz, Duncan Heath and Chayaz Younas led Frodingham home with 10 overs to spare.

York beat visitors Doncaster by nine wickets, slow left-armer Dan Woods taking 7-36 in 18 overs. Needing 156 to win, York reached 158-1 in 18.3 overs, Simon Mason and Duncan Snell sharing an unbroken stand of 124. Mason struck 16 fours and a six in his 75 off 41 balls, and Snell's 68 off 56 balls contained 12 fours and a six.

Scarborough sent in hosts Rotherham, who made 174 in 51.5 overs, opener Gerhard Rudolph hitting 91. Ashley Lyth and James Finch shared eight wickets and Andy Simpson then carried his bat, his fourth century of the season containing 16 fours. Simpson and Kunwar Bansil took Scarborough to victory in 33.3 overs after they lost Darren Harland for 33.

Cleethorpes proved much too strong for Sheffield United, who lost by 167 runs, falling for 118 against medium pacer Andy Ellis and leg spinner Alex Osmond.
