Bairstow and Hales help rush England to series win

England set a new world record of 481-6 against Australia at Trent Bridge, with Hales weighing in with 147, Bairstow 139 and captain Morgan hitting a rapid-fire 67 from 30 balls late in the innings. Opening batsman Roy was run out for 82.

“When Morgs (Morgan) came out, he said ‘if we’re ever going to do it (get 500), now’s the time’ but we didn’t quite get there,” said Hales.

Meanwhile, Bairstow admitted he did not know where his current rich vein of run-scoring form is coming from.

“I’ve got no idea,” said the Yorkshireman. “It’s a case of following and watching the ball. Each opposition gives you different challenges. That’s the nature of players round the world.

“It’s a case of maintaining your consistency and doing the same things day after day and that’s what I’m finding at the minute.”
