Beaten Holmfirth suffer relegation

DRAKE'S HUDDERSFIELD: Holmfirth's home 10-wicket defeat at the hands of Delph & Dobcross yesterday means the Bridge Fold side will finish bottom of the Premiership and are relegated with three matches still to play.

Holmfirth were bowled out for 101, Warren Jones heading the wicket-takers with 4-42.

Irfan Zahoor and Bruce Cruse then took Delph to victory without loss in 17 overs, Zahoor leading the way with 65, Cruse contributing 30 and eight extras accounting for the rest.

Holmfirth's only league win of the campaign so far came at home to Skelmanthorpe in June and coincidentally Kirkburton's first victory since July 3 arrived yesterday against Skelmanthorpe.

Opener Tim Sykes made 62 of Skelmanthorpe's 159 runs, Rob Kettlewell taking 5-20 in 9.3 overs. Kirkburton won by seven wickets in 40.5 overs, opening batsman Matthew Wood striking 14 boundaries in his innings of 88 and Louis Aspeling making an unbeaten 40.

Leaders Honley suffered a 113 run defeat at Scholes for whom Ibrar Latif made an undefeated half century and Mohammed Shah Nawaz grabbed five wickets. Second-placed Shepley, beaten by Broad Oak 24 hours earlier, won by nine wickets at Hoylandswaine, Leigh Millar taking six wickets and Sarjinder Pal Singh hitting an unbeaten 72.
