Best ball I have bowled – Swann

Graeme Swann had plenty to smile about last night after his career-best 6-60 limited England's frustration against Pakistan at Edgbaston.

Without their off-spinner's contribution, England would surely have suffered an even more chastening third day of the second Test thanks to the exploits of Zulqarnain Haider.

"I'm over the moon," said Swann, who was justifiably most pleased with his first wicket with a huge off-break which turned more than the width of the stumps from an unfeasible angle round the wicket to bowl Imran Farhat.

"That's the best ball I have ever bowled. It was a bit of a one-off. You are not going to pitch too many outside leg that hit off."

Swann followed up with another beauty to bowl Azhar Ali in his next over, but plenty of unexpected hard work lay ahead.

"I don't think it is any surprise, that was going to happen at some stage after we have bowled them out cheaply three times in the series so far," he added.

"It led to a few frustrations, the fact we got through the top order and it was the guys lower down who made us work."

Swann was happy to give due credit to Haider, however, adding: "He did really well considering he could have had a king pair if we didn't have a review system."
