Bowlers make most of damp conditions

ECB Yorkshire

THE damp conditions favoured bowlers with three seven-wicket takers, led by York left-arm spinner David Woods.

He took 7-55 in restricting Yorkshire Academy to 172-9 after Simon Mason had made 86 towards the York total of 197-8 in 47 overs.

The win, which followed York's first defeat of the season against West Indian Cavaliers in the ECB National Cup Group Two final, moved the leaders past the 100 points mark.

Leg-spinner Alex Osmond grabbed 7-61 in 21 overs for Cleethorpes who won by five wickets at Scarborough despite a century from home opener Andy Simpson who was eventually trapped lbw by Osmond.

Simpson and Darren Harland had an opening stand of 97 but Scarborough fell to their fourth successive defeat.

The third seven-wicket taker was Hull's Matthew Wilkinson whose 24 overs of medium pace brought him figures of 7-86 at Castleford. However, the home side won by 102 runs, with number eight batsman Alex Rominiw making a vital 72 not out.

Fowler registered his first Yorkshire League half-century, his 62 containing six boundaries, and he put on 72 with James Pickersgill. Tanzeel Ali, Sheffield's middle order batsman, struck a half century but opening bowler Carl Taylor and leg-spinner Fowler took three wickets each and United were bowled out for 146 in 45.4 overs.
