Brice hits landmark as Woodlands win

Spinner Chris Brice took his 500th Bradford League wicket as he helped Division One leaders Woodlands to a 33-run win at Morley.

Brice took his tally to 501 after taking 5-62 as he and Sarfaz Ahmed (3-29) ensured that Morley were bowled out for 180 in reply to their side’s 213-7. Kashif Naveed (43 James McNichol (39) and Matthew Baxter (31) were the main contributors for Morley.

Brice hit an unbeaten 40 in a Woodlands innings that owed much to a 100-run second-wicket stand between Sam Frankland (55) and Simon Mason (52).

Woodlands have 130 points and are25 ahead of Cleckheaton and Pudsey St Lawrence who share second place.

Spinner Steve Watts took 4-29 as St Lawrence bowled out Bradford & Bingley for 142, and then Mark Robertshaw (73no) and Adam Waite (58no) shared an unbroken opening stand of 146 to secure a ten-wicket win.

Cleckheaton lost by 21 runs to Lightcliffe. Oliver Robinson made 90 off 88 balls in a total of 211-9. He built on the earlier work of Alex Stead (41) and David Hester (37).

Tim Jackson (41) and Mally Nicholson (39) were the top scorers as Cleckheaton were all out for 190. Left-arm spinner Suleman Khan took 3-33.

Mark Gill (90no) and Gavin Hamilton (82) shared an opening stand of 132 as East Bierley romped to an eight-wicket win at Manningham Mills.

East Bierley chased down a score of 253-8 with seven overs to spare. Andrew Rennison added an unbeaten 58. Skipper Adam Patel (89) top scored for Mills with Adal Islam (30) and Zeeshan Qasim (30) providing support.

Glenn Roberts took 5-22 as Pudsey Congs dismissed Baildon for 154 to set up a seven-wicket win. Only Kassir Maroof (51) impressed for Baildon. Nick Lindley (64no) and skipper Gareth Phillips (46) steered Congs towards their target.

Saltaire’s overseas player Khuram Shahzad has made a big impact since his arrival. He took 4-41 and followed up with an unbeaten 82 as they lifted themselves out of trouble with a six-wicket win over a Hanging Heaton.
