Captain’s last-ball heroics on a day of tight finishes in the Yorkshire leagues

Bridge’s 206-7 total, which included 51 from Freddie Collins, looked safe when Alliance slumped to 14-4 but a 124-run stand between Jake Atkinson (60) and Sam Grant, with a quick-fire, unbeaten century turned the match round.

Tight finishes were the order of the day elsewhere in Yorkshire North with Acomb overtaking York’s 186 with two balls to spare after a century opening stand between William Wade (89) and Matthew Dale (33).

Dunnington had four balls left when they passed Driffield Town’s 173-9, despite the efforts of Nicky Johnson, who followed up a knock of 42 with 5-30.

Chris Bilton (94no) led the way in Woodhouse Grange’s 179-7 and even though Henry Thompson replied with 70 for Harrogate, they came up short largely thanks to Josh Jackson (5-58).

Liam Hyde (65) top scored in Castleford’s 168 but Stamford Bridge got home with three wickets to spare.

In Yorkshire South, Dan Priestley cracked 15 fours and five sixes in his unbeaten 133 and put on 96 with Jamie Carrington (57no) as Sheffield Collegiate set a 269-3 target. Even with James Wolfenden (78) and Matthew Jordan (50) leading the reply, Wakefield Thornes came up short.

Half-centuries from James Moorhouse and Alex Fletcher helped Whitley Hall to 241-8 before Ben Webster (5-30) helped restrict Hallam to 160.

Ali Jahangir’s 75 not out could not get Barnsley near Cawthorne’s 214-6 in which Iqbal Khan made 73.

Stephen Foster (116) and Jack Simmonite (57) put on 139 in Treeton’s 242-7 on the way to a 37-run win over Tickhill, while openers Matt Morland (38no) and Alex Grimes (63no) eased Appleby Frodingham past Wickersley’s 110 total.

Doncaster Town maintained their 100 per cent start to the campaign with a five wicket win in a low-scoring match against Elsecar.

Sam Drury smashed nine fours and six sixes in a lively 91 and shared a century stand with Joe Fraser (65) as Hanging Heaton raced to 307-8 and a 181-run win over Bradford & Bingley in the Bradford Premier.

Kasir Marouf (51no) and Roheil Hussain (48) were the main contributors to Batley’s 187-7 before Hussain picked up 4-9 as Wrenthorpe were dismissed for 112.

Chris Marsden (5-15) ensured Cleckheaton fell well short of Pudsey St Lawrence’s 188-7 total while Steve Bullen’s 84 was the highlight of New Farnley’s win at Morley.

Paul Cummings scored 70 not out and put on 159 with George Sommerville (105) before taking 5-19 to give Skelmanthorpe a comfortable Huddersfield League win over Denby Dale.

Ibrar Hussain (96) and Mirza Mobeen (69) starred in Emley Clarence’s 212-6 but Chris Holliday (49), Nathan Rimmington (50) and Gurman Randhawa (61no) steered Hoylandswaine home.

Half-centuries from Harvey Booth and Charlie Roebuck helped Broad Oak to 200-3 and even a century stand between Edward Wilson (80) and Timmy Taylor (48) left Honley seven runs short.

Tom Chadwick followed up a top score of 86 with a 4-27 spell as Shepley beat Golcar while Alex Peters (67no) steered Delph and Dobcross to a comfortable victory over Armitage Bridge.

In the Aire-Wharfe League, Amjid Hussain included nine sixes in his sparkling 119 and put on 142 with Sajad Ali (73) as Saltaire overtook Bilton’s 219-7 in which David Cummings (85) and Ryan Bradshaw (70no) were the top scorers.

Paul Dover (6-15) and Henry Wilson (4-32) skittled Follifoot for 48 to give Ilkley an easy win while Nick Taylor took 6-12 as North Leeds crashed to defeat at Horsforth, and Stephen Brown’s 6-46 was the foundation of Otley’s victory at Collingham.

Rory Stead (70) top scored as Addingham crushed Olicanian by 116 runs.
