TWINS Edward and Marcus Walmsley helped Premiership champions Methley make a winning start.

Edward bagged 4-24 and captain Marcus 3-24 to rout Wakefield Thornes for 112 and set up a five-wicket victory.

Chris Holliday, Townville’s new signing from Methley, hammered 80 as they won a high-scoring match at Mirfield PC.

Holliday shared a 156-run stand with Jack Hughes (89no) as they recovered from 31-2 to overhaul Parish’s 245-8 that featured an unbeaten 88 by Yasir Ali and 58 from Abdul Rehman.

Arkam Asif hit 17 boundaries in the top-flight’s first century and put on 155 for the first wicket with Brent Law (56) in Altofts’ eight-wicket win at Hunslet Nelson.

Promoted sides Batley and Buttershaw St Paul’s both lost.

A last-wicket stand of 19 between Tariq Hussain and Huizaifa Patel was in vain for Batley, who were all out for 143, chasing Birstall’s 145 that included 61 by Eric Austin.

Shoaib Latif hit 84 and ex-Castleford batsman Will Simpson struck 83 off 67 balls as Ossett made 261 against Buttershaw, who were bowled out for 145 by John Sadler (4-51) and Charles Orme (3-29), despite ex-Darfield batman Ahmad Yar’s 48.

South African opener Darryl Hendricks (82) guided Wrenthorpe to 227-9 at Carlton, whose reply was reduced to 112-7 by their former player Chris Leaf (5-34) before Steve Cooper’s unbeaten 63 saw them to 165-9.

In the Championship, Razwan Subhani (51), Nazakat Hussain 
(4-14) and Imran Mahboob (4-2) led promoted Azaad to a 92-run win against Oulton.

Matthew King’s unbeaten 95 steered Division One newcomers Great Preston to a seven-wicket victory against Gildersome.
