While Yorkshire’s senior men’s team are basking in the glow of back-to-back County Championships, the White Rose’s women also had a ball in September, lifting their own championship title.

Needing to beat Lancashire in their final match at Harrogate CC and secure at least seven of the eight available bonus points, the White Rose romped to an eight-wicket win after a devastating spell of 6-6 from Katie Levick and Lauren Winfield’s unbeaten 65.

That saw them finish ahead of Kent in Division One to become the first side since 2002 to end Kent and Sussex’s domination of the event.

Just as with their male counterparts, the women’s side have had to cope with regular international call-ups to several star players, including skipper Winfield, Katherine Brunt and Danielle Hazell – who all returned to face Lancashire.

Thankfully prior to that, the county made light of their absences with others regularly stepping up to the plate – something Winfield was keen to acknowledge. The York-born captain may have made a key contribution in that definitive Roses clash, but plenty of others throughout the campaign have arrived across the board.

Winfield said: “It’s been a real team effort this year. I think we’ve really gelled as a team and come together stronger than we have before.

“In previous years, we had individuals who had good seasons, but it always seemed to be the same people contributing.

“It sounds a bit clichéd, but I don’t think individuals can win Championships, I think it’s got to be a real team effort and I think people have stood up this year and contributed consistently.”
