Clewett dethrones Frodingham as Thornes take command

Wes Marshall included 12 fours and five sixes in a sparkling 106 and put on 114 with Ryan Harrison (45) and 68 with Clewett (60) as Cleethorpes set a 260-9 target.

Clewett then took 4-65 and with Alex Willerton (3-67) bowled out the visitors despite a spirited fight from the middle order which included 46 in 29 balls from Alex Grime.

Wakefield Thornes took over top spot after they crushed rock-bottom Rotherham by 199 runs with Matthew Jordan, David Toft and Greg Wadsworth making half-centuries and Akila Isanka following up his 32 with 5-38 as the visitors were skittled out for 96.

At the other end of the table, Graeme Attenborough hit 11 boundaries in making 99no as Doncaster Town went past Treeton’s 179-4 with five wickets to spare to climb above their opponents who are now in the bottom two.

Barnsley eased a little further from the relegation zone after Zohaib Ahed (5-18) and Oliver Jackson (3-24) dismissed Sheffield & Phoenix United for 94 in reply to their own 136-8.

An unbeaten last-wicket stand of 40 between Chris Purshouse (43no) and Matt Dixon (18no) helped Sheffield Collegiate to 166-9 but, despite a 4-42 spell from Alex Varley, Whitley Hall were seen to a two-wicket win by Pieter Swanepoel who followed up a 3-42 haul with 18no.

Both the top two sides in the Bradford Premier went down to defeat to the teams immediately below them.

Mark Lawson (3-34) and Mohammed Bilal (3-47) restricted leaders Pudsey St Lawrence to 152-9 and Bilal was on 26no when New Farnley clinched a three-wicket win.

Arthur Price (75) and Ryan Cooper (85no) starred in Farsley’s 233-8 and despite the efforts of Joe Fraser (42) and Ismail Dawood (73), a 3.5 over spell of 4-14 from Adam Ahmed saw Hanging Heaton dismissed for 225.

Morley eased a little closer to the safety zone after their middle order, led by Richard Jubb (32), saw them recover from 28-6 to 121 in which Matt Lumb took 5-33. East Bierley looked set to win at 49-2 but then Kashif Naveed (4-15) and David Nebard (4-27) shot them out for 95.

Scholes are further adrift at the bottom after Elliot Richardson (4-34) and Chris Brice (4-30) restricted them to 99-9 to set up a six-wicket win for Woodlands.

Michael Nicholson (68no) steered Cleckheaton past Lightcliffe’s 183-3 in which Alex Stead made 89no.

A sixth-wicket stand of 86 between Matt Walker (30) and Norman Ali (48) that helped Bradford & Bingley to 183-8 proved decisive as Pudsey Congs were dismissed for 171, Ali picking up 3-44.

There were no slip-ups by the front runners in Yorkshire Premier North with the top four all winning.

George Ross starred with three wickets and an unbeaten half-century as Harrogate cruised to an eight wicket win over Acomb.

Duncan Snell top scored in York’s 250-9 in which Richard Walton took 5-67 and while brothers Andrew (74) and Chris Bilton (41) put up a stern fight, Woodhouse Grange still went down by 36 runs.

Matthew Fisher hit 117 in Sheriff Hutton Bridge’s 262-7 and even though Castleford hopes were raised by a century fourth-wicket stand between David Wainwright (100no) and James Sykes (52), they still fell 51 runs short.

Eddie Baines, who dismissed both Driffield’s openers in an over when they looked to be getting on top, then hit an unbeaten half-century and with Jordan Thompson (80) saw Yorkshire Academy to a four–wicket win.

Steve Sergeant (4-28) and Shivil Kaushik (5-41) tore into the Scarborough batting and even though the last pair of Alex Corrie (32no) and Richard  Ngarva (47no) battled gamely, they were still 28 behind Hull’s 185-4.

There was also some brave rear-guard fighting from Dunnington’s Collis King (62) and David Brent (49no) but Dominic Rhodes (5-37) made  sure Stamford Bridge won by 14 runs.
