Clifton frustrated by Grange's Quinn

Woodhouse Grange bowler Tom Quinn bowled a maiden over to end the game and leave leaders Clifton Alliance three runs short of victory in their top-of-the-table encounter with the second-placed side.

Champions Grange posted a first innings 240-6 with Jonathon Bean hitting 74, Andrew Anderson (40) and captain Steve Burdett an unbeaten 46.

Clifton captain John Gilham then struck 76, Jason Gatus made 53 and Shaun Holmes (37) to leave them needing just six runs to win off the final two overs. The penultimate over produced three before Quinn left the home side frustrated at 238-8 and enable Grange to reduce the gap to 13 points.

There was also a tense finish at Beverley where the hosts lost by one run after being dismissed for 168 by Stamford Bridge.

Three-quarters of Stamford's 169 all out came from Matt Beckett (51) and Phil Hill (83) before Alex Morrell (5-40) scythed through the remainder of the batting.

Mark Fairweather (3-39) and Dave Chaplin (3-47) then produced a tense win for the Bridge.

Fenner captain Steve Sergeant hit nin fours in an unbeaten 86 and then took 3-41 as his side gained its first Premier Division victory at the expense of Goole Town. Sergeant shared a 99-run fourth-wicket stand with Will Rhodes (55).

A top all-round performance by Mark Wilkie ensured an overwhelming derby victory for Sessay at Thirsk.

Wilkie's 8-18 saw Thirsk tumble to 104 all out with only Des Wyrill, who lives overlooking his opponents ground, making a decent score in reaching 39.

Wilkie followed up by hitting an unbeaten 64 as he and John Flintoff (32no) knocked off the runs without loss.

York captain David Simpson had a memorable return to his old stamping ground at Elm Park when he took a century off the Heworth attack to lead his side to a nine-wicket win.

His opposite number in charge, Guy Wilkinson, had earlier made 71 as, together with Rich Walton (27) and Mark Lynch (37), he saw Heworth to 192-8, Matt Hodgson taking 4-36.

Simpson moved to his 19th league century in making 102 not out as he and James Wackett (62no) forged an unbroken second-wicket stand of 169 to sweep York to a nine-wicket win.

Studley Royal's Rob Nicholson hit 133 as he shared a third-wicket stand of 117 with Gary Blackburn 58 as the Royals hit 296-4 at Easingwold. Paul Skilbeck made with 70 but Easingwold were held at 237-8.

Dunnington rattled up 305-6 at home to Acomb with Dave Johnson making 133 in a fourth-wicket stand of 147 with Simon Dwyer, who was unbeaten with 73. Andy Tute hit back with 103 as Acomb drew at 221-5.

At Pickering in Division 4B, Dan Hardy hit a six off the final ball to earn the hosts a two-wicket win over Easingwold whilst in Division Two, Dringhouses beat Beverley II by 96 runs when they had the last man caught off the final ball.
