Cricket latest: Bairstow puts Yorkshire in command at Somerset

JONNY BAIRSTOW’s second first-class century helped Yorkshire reach 358 all out on the first day of their County Championship match against Somerset at Taunton.

Bairstow’s 136 off 169 balls contained 25 boundaries in perfect batting conditions at the County Ground.

But Andrew Gale’s side were all out in 90 overs shortly before the close after reaching tea at 262-4, having won the toss.

Bairstow was supported by Gary Ballance, who made 61 off 127 balls and shared a 167-run fifth-wicket stand with his partner.

Former Yorkshire fast bowler Steve Kirby claimed 3-54 from 23 overs.

Somerset closed on seven without loss.
