Cricket latest: Yorkshire and Warwickshire finely balanced

YORKSHIRE’s County Championship match against Warwickshire at Edgbaston remains finely balanced at tea on day two.

The home side are 142-4 in reply to Yorkshire’s 281, with the game having yet to reveal its hand.

Shivnarine Chanderpaul batted through the session to add 33 runs to his lunchtime total of 13, while Tim Ambrose is unbeaten on two.

Yorkshire have generally bowled well and stuck to their task, with the contest having developed into an attritional battle for supremacy.

Chanderpaul apparently holds the key for Warwickshire, who now have a great opportunity to win the title following Lancashire’s defeat at Worcester.

Equally, Worcestershire’s victory means Yorkshire must realistically win here to have any chance of preserving their Division One status.

After resuming on 55-2 after lunch, Warwickshire lost their third wicket on 94 when Ian Westwood was caught at first slip by Adam Lyth off Ryan Sidebottom for 55.

It was a good ball that shaped away from Westwood, who faced 108 deliveries and struck seven fours.

The fourth wicket fell on 137 when Jim Troughton drove loosely outside his off-stump at Moin Ashraf and was caught behind for 18.

It was a poor shot by the out-of-sorts Troughton, but Ashraf deserved the wicket for his spirited efforts.
