After the visitors resumed on 242-5 after lunch, Yorkshire were made to work hard in the field as the visitors extended their first innings total to 368-7.

Chris Read and Steven Mullaney added 33 in 13 overs before Read departed for 14, superbly caught by wicketkeeper Andy Hodd diving to his right off Ryan Sidebottom.

Mullaney and Paul Franks then gave the innings some much-needed impetus, combining in an attractive partnership of 87 in 17 overs.

It ended somewhat tamely, however, when Mullaney, seeking to strike Adil Rashid through the leg-side, succeeded only in scooping the ball up to Alex Lees at short-leg.

Mullaney played a fine hand, scoring 79 from 97 balls with 11 fours and two sixes.

Franks is unbeaten on 32 at the break, while former Yorkshire pace bowler Ajmal Shahzad has yet to score.
