David Willey's sudden switch to IPL duty prompts Martyn Moxon to call for ECB to implement deadline

At the ripe old age of 34, Pontefract's James Willstrop shed the nearly man tag that has haunted his career by winning the men's singles in the Commonwealth Games squash tournament on the Gold Coast.

“It’s just the most wonderful moment of my career,” said Willstrop, after a straight sets victory over Paul Coll of New Zealand.

Willstrop had won silver in each of the last two Commonwealth Games, losing on both occasions in the final to Sheffield’s Nick Matthew.

Elsewhere in Australia yesterday, Leeds gymnast Nile Wilson made it a record five-medal haul by winning gold in the horizontal bar and silver on the parallel bars, but there was a shock defeat for Adam Peaty in the 50m breastroke. It was Peaty’s first defeat over the distance for four years.
