Dawid Malan breezes into Big Bash with Hobart Hurricanes

Yorkshire and England batsman Dawid Malan is set for his first taste of Australia’s Big Bash League this winter after signing for Hobart Hurricances.

Malan, who has risen to the top of the world Twenty20 batting rankings, is an experienced campaigner on the domestic Twenty20 circuit having played in franchise leagues in Bangladesh, South Africa and Pakistan. He said: “The Big Bash is recognised as one of the leading T20 leagues in the world, and I’m excited to be joining the Hurricanes. I love the whole ethos of Australian sport, and really enjoy playing in front of Aussie crowds.”

The 33-year-old has an astonishing record for England in T20s, averaging 48.71 with a strike-rate of 146.66.

Hurricanes head coach Adam Griffith said: “Dawid is a proven performer at T20 cricket on the international stage and I’m looking forward to seeing him hopefully replicate that for the Hurricanes.”

The BBL gets under way on December 3 and is scheduled to finish on February 6 next year.
