Deegan spins in to put the title in sight

Cleckheaton require just 16 points from their remaining two games to retain the league championship after their 58-run win over Lightcliffe.

Left-arm spinner Andrew Deegan took 7-22 as Lightcliffe were bowled out for 152 in reply to Cleckheaton’s 210-7.

Overseas player Suleman Khan made 61 for Lightcliffe but the innings of the match came from counterpart Tanzeel Asfzal. He smashed an unbeaten 55 from 26 balls, hitting six sixes and two fours. Off-spinner Josh Whetaley took 6-88 for Lightcliffe.

Scott Richardson (5-13) and Chris Brice (5-15) bowled Woodlands to a 55-run win at East Bierley. They joined forces to dismiss East Bierley for just 92, with former Woodlands batsman Dan Shuffe making 42.

Captain Pieter Swanepoel with 31 had been the highest scorer in the Woodlands total of 147 while Richard Atkins took 4-29 for East Bierley.

Hanging Heaton remain third despite a five-wicket defeat at home to Bradford & Bingley. Paceman Jack Hartley (5-37) and spinner Noman Ali (4-2) dismissed Hanging Heaton for just 81.

Bingley eased to victory with openers Scott Etherington and Charlie Best sharing an opening stand of 51.

Pudsey St Lawrence ended their run of three-successive defeats with a seven-wicket win at Morley.

They pushed the home side closer to relegation by bowling them out for 74 with Craig Wiseman taking 3-10. St Lawrence lost early wickets in reply before captain James Smith took charge. He hammered an unbeaten 58 not out from 38 balls, with three sixes and six fours.

Morley and Yeadon, who meet on Saturday, look condemned to relegation.
