Devastating Dobson destroys Green Lane

AIRE-WHARFEOtley’s Stewart Dobson produced a devastating 15-over spell of 7-29 as Green Lane were skittled for just 54, a total Ricky Halloran and George Huntley saw off without loss.

That sent Lane tumbling from second to fifth, their place taken by Beckwithshaw after a seven-wicket win at Follifoot.

Stewart Hudson (6-77) and James Lilley (3-72) restricted Follifoot to 183-9 before Andy Johnson (58no) and Phil Critchley, with his second successive unbeaten century, eased them to their third win in a row.

Thackley remain the team to catch, now eight points clear after beating struggling Rawdon. Andrew Doidge (5-68) seemed to have given Rawdon a chance when the visitors were bowled out for 155 but Mahir Ali (5-42) and Nasser Jamal (5-25) tore through the home batting for 76.

Brothers Richard (80) and Nick (64) Brook led Burley to 282-6 but a battling half-century from John Swaine helped Collingham hang on for their first point in five weeks.

Chris Wain included eight maidens in a 16.2 over spell of 4-30 as Kirkstall were dismissed for 147 and Dean Russ (61) and Alex Bell (41) made sure Guiseley picked up full points, while a 5-26 spell from Thomas Barron bowled out Adel for 137 for victorious Bilton.

Anthony Barton (72no) top scored in Upper Wharfedale’s 257-6 but Tong Park notched their first Division Two win of the season by one wicket with two balls left, mainly thanks to Fawad Maqsood (53) and Danny Groom (44).

A fine innings of 139 from Chris Luxton and 63 from John Agrigg took leaders Steeton to 282-6 but a half-century from Stuart Carey helped Knaresborough hang on.

Andrew Bailey’s 6-43 put Harden on the way to a five-wicket win at Menston while Ed Brown (58) and Jamie Hudson (49) helped Olicanian take five points at Pool, for whom David Amos who followed up a four-wicket spell with 44 not out.

Lewis Bilton (78) and Jason Wright (51) helped Ben Rhydding to 252-7 but 79 from Gareth Lee and a half-century from Shabir Bashir ensured Calverley held on for a draw.

DRAKES HUDDERSFIELD

KIRKBURTON captain Matthew Wood and Greg Buckley inflicted a first league defeat of the season on Honley, who lost the leadership to Delph & Dobcross in a high-scoring affair at Riley Lane.

Former Yorkshire batsman Wood flayed the Honley attack, including 18 fours and three sixes in a magnificent innings of 140. He shared a third-wicket stand of 192 with Buckley, who made 93, including eight fours and five sixes, and Ryan Robinson added 63 with nine fours and two sixes, Kirkburton amassing 341-6.

Honley were bowled out 52 runs short despite 80 from Martin Green, who went in at No 6 and hoisted 11 sixes and two fours. His whirlwind 50 came off 16 balls and his 80 off 26 deliveries. Harlon Haye also made 70 in vain.

Delph took over at the top after an eight-wicket victory against Skelmanthorpe, who were restricted to 154-8, Bilal Khiljee taking four wickets. Delph lost their first two wickets for 32 but Irfan Zahoor (78) and FaisaL Butt (56) then saw the hosts home.

Chris Gill, the Lancashire Seconds wicketkeeper, blasted an undefeated 156 for Broad Oak, who won by five wickets at bottom club Barkisland. Opener Gill had useful support from Jack Hargreaves, who completed his half-century and took three wickets. Darren Robinson and Gary Colman made scores in the 80s and put together a century partnership but Barkisland had to settle for a point.

Hoylandswaine pulled victory out of the fire at Slaithwaite where they needed 15 off the last over and reached their target with one ball to spare, Calvin Flowers taking 16 off the over. Joe Sayers and John Sadler contributed half-centuries to the win.

Greg Wood’s undefeated 108 helped Elland to a six-wicket triumph at Shepley. Tom Denton, Liam Wiles and Amar Rashid made half-centuries for Shepley but Wood’s innings, which contained 13 fours and two sixes, proved decisive.

Golcar squeezed a one-wicket win against visitors Scholes, who were hustled out for 148, Steve Whitwam taking 6-27 in 17 overs and Craig Horner 3-25.

ECB YORKSHIRE

Champions York crashed to their first defeat of the season as Yorkshire Academy eclipsed them by 148 runs at Clifton Park.

George Ross (78) and Alex Lees (62) put on 87 for the second wicket in the Academy’s 233 in 55 overs, Ross hitting 12 fours and a six and Lees striking 10 fours. York were 36-2 but then collapsed to 55-8 before finishing on 85 in 23.3 overs, No 10 batsman Jake Murphy making 24.

Paceman James Wainman (4-12) and veteran John Blain (4-37) did most of the damage and former Golcar wicketkeeper Edward Wilson took four catches.

Cleethorpes cut York’s lead to eight points with a 32-run home victory over Harrogate. Cleethorpes were bowled out for 136 in 53.2 overs, seamer Ben Biker taking 5-20 in 14 overs. No 10 Jack Harrison was Cleethorpes’ top scorer with 33 not out in a 35-run last-wicket stand with Andy Ellis.

In reply, Alex Osmond took 5-19 in 8.3 overs and Sri Lankan Omesh Wijesiriwardana claimed 4-40 in 14 overs, Harrogate collapsing from 93-5 to 104 all out.

Scarborouigh’s Andy Simpson struck 14 fours and a six in his 82 off 70 balls during an opening partnership of 123 with Darren Harland, who made 42. Driffield’s 158-9, in which John Major hit an unbeaten 48, was passed after 32 overs for the loss of three wickets.

Brandon Handley, Appleby Frodingham’s South African batsman, included nine fours and a six in a match-winning undefeated 118 at Barnsley, who had posted 215-7.

Handley and Matt Fowler (49) then shared a fifth-wicket stand of 105 and the visitors won by three wickets with one ball to spare, No 9 Paul Hilton hitting the winning boundary off the first ball he received from Oliver Hannon-Dalby.

Third-placed Rotherham Town defeated Sheffield United by seven wickets and stretched their winning league run to seven matches. Stuart Guy (79 no) and Gerhardus Rudolph had a second-wicket partnership of 150 for the winners.

Half-centuries from James Stuart and Amit Kundra failed to save bottom club Doncaster from a five-wicket defeat against Hull.
