Eighth triumph for Hanging Heaton

Division One’s Hanging Heaton, making their 23rd appearance in the final, made home advantage count at Bennett Lane against their Division Two opponents.

Former Yorkshire all-rounder Gary Fellows, who captained Wrenthorpe to victory in the 2010 and 2012 finals, hit two sixes and 10 fours in an unbeaten 79 off 110 balls and claimed 3-36 in a comfortable win.

New Farnley made a solid start to their first appearance in the final when openers Lee Goddard (36) and Matthew Good (17) put on 33.

But Fellows, David Stiff and John Carruthers then sent them collapsing from 83-2 to 158 all out. Ian Fisher (27) and Neil Walker (19no) were the only other Farnley batsmen who made an impact.

Stiff finished with figures of 4-15 from an eight-over spell that included three maidens and Carruthers bagged 2-31.

Hanging Heaton overhauled the target in 37.4 overs, with opener Fellows leading the way.

He put on 54 for the first-wicket with James Sykes and shared a 58-run partnership for the fourth wicket with James Stansfield (36).

Fisher was Farnley’s best bowler with 2-33 from 10 overs.

Brothers Joe and Tom Suggitt were on opposing sides in the final, with Hanging Heaton wicket-keeper Joe winning the family bragging rights against Farnley batsman Tom.
