Etherington hat-trick is a bonus for Burley

While rain played havoc once again with matches, at least the league’s new bonus points system made sure play was not completely meaningless and led to some quick-hitting and sharp bowling to try and squeeze the maximum advantage out of every playable minute.

Shane Etherington included a hat-trick in his 6-36 spell as Burley restricted Collingham to 168-9 in which Toby Jacklin hit 74. The home side then chased the runs with gusto. Jason Wright smashed 52 off 23 balls, including six sixes, as he and Ed Brown (39) put on 78 at more than 10 an over but Burley were still 24 off victory when play was abandoned.

Beckwithshaw looked set for victory when Stuart Hudson
(6-18) masterminded Pool’s collapse to 76, which included an eighth-wicket stand of 27 between John Goldthorpe and Ben Platt. But even that low total proved impossible to overtake before the rain arrived.

Richard Spittlehouse
(5-39) starred as Guiseley were dismissed for 92 but Bilton only faced four balls in which Paul Cannings managed to hit a six and a four. Anthony Gilks’s unbeaten 50 off 26 balls was the highlight of Rawdon’s 192-5 against Ilkley.

With captain James Davies leading the way with a quickfire 64, league leaders Otley raced to 207-7 at almost eight an over to pick up four batting points at Kirkstall, who were at 54-1 when it was abandoned.

In Division Two, Green Lane took all five batting points with Andy Lee cracking 73 off 47 balls in their 236-5 at Tong Park Esholt while Mark Johnson (76) top scored in Adel’s 169-6 at Colton.

In the Third Division, New Rover’s Ryan Skeen included 19 fours and four sixes in racing to 137 not out off 104 balls at Hall Park.
