Gillespie, who will assist head coach Matt Walker, said: "I am really looking forward to joining Kent.

"Obviously I moved back to Adelaide for family reasons last year, but the opportunity to assist Kent on a short-term basis was one that I couldn't resist and works well with my current situation.

"I look forward to helping Matt Walker and [captain] Sam Northeast over the next couple of months until I hand over the reins to Allan Donald."

“I still had these thoughts that I could still work here and I could try and maybe get back home a couple of times during the summer for a few days. But the more I thought about it - from a family point of view - the more it became clear that that wasn’t going to be practical.

“At the end of the day, family comes first.”
