Fisher gets leader Farnley off the hook

IAN Fisher hammered a century off 88 balls as New Farnley maintained their bid to lift the Premier Division championship for the first time.

Fisher guided Farnley to 248-9 against Wakefield Thornes who were sent reeling from 53-3 to 93 all out by Nicky Johnson (3-15), Fisher (2-20), Aaron Schier (2-23) and David Cummings (2-7).

Farnley are eight points adrift of leaders Wrenthorpe who trounced Mirfield Parish Cavaliers by 162 runs. Gary Fellows (98), Bradley Parker (58no), Neil Gill (35) and Eric Austin (35) led Wrenthorpe to 319-7 and Gill (3-30) and Joe Ellis (3-46) toppled Cavaliers for 157.Cavaliers’ defeat was hard on Sri Lankan all-rounder Milan Gunarathne (50 and 5-63).

Birstall’s relegation worries increased when they lost by 151 runs to second-placed Methley.

Openers John Trower (135) and Jonathan Booth (110) put on 242 as Townville piled up 302-3 against bottom-side Ossett who were routed for 105 by Khurram Chohan (4-24), Dean Woolsey (3-16) and Jack Hughes (3-4).

Openers Alan Burton (83) and Lee Padgett (45) out on 134 for Altofts before Hunslet Nelson’s Sohail Raz (5-35) and Robert Barker (5-46) sent them collapsing to 197 all out. In reply, Hunslet were toppled for 171 by Shoaib Latif (4-21), Danny Eden (3-29) and James Logan (3-36).

Wakefield St Michael’s improved their chances of avoiding relegation by beating fellow strugglers Northowram Fields by six wickets. Simon Stirling smashed four sixes and 11 fours in an unbeaten 70 off 32 balls as St Michael’s overhauled Northowram’s 176-9.

Division One’s top two Liversedge and Carlton both lost.

Liversedge were trounced by Moorlands. Chasing Moorlands’ 255-9 that featured 112 by Andrew Fortis, Liversedge were routed for 139 by Dan Pauley (6-43) and Muhammad Hafeez (3-37).

Michael Waite (6-40) bowled out Carlton for 177, replying to Methley’s 214 that included 58 by Matthew Waite. Batley, who beat East Ardsley by 110 runs, are level on points with Carlton at the top.

Buttershaw St Paul’s are one point behind 30-run win against Wakefield Thornes.
