Good news for Premier pair ahead of Cup ties

The Premier Division's top two clubs, Whitley Hall and Treeton, both set themselves up for the following day's Yorkshire Council championship semi-finals with comfortable victories, which saw Whitley needing just victory over Tickhill next weekend to clinch their first Premier Division title.

They held guests Aston Hall to 161, Scott Jones 41, Adam Wilson claiming four cheap wickets, and knocked off the runs for one wicket, Neil Longhurst belting an unbeaten 85.

Treeton set guests Houghton Main a 226 target with Andy Tomlinson slamming 72 and Chris Holt 63no, captain Chris Cobb adding 47. Lucas Dredge claimed 5-44 for Main but they were sent packing for 122 by Umaid Asif, 6-43.

Wickersley had nine wickets in hand after passing Tickhill's 158, Haidar Jahangir and Greg Norton each taking three wickets, then Jahangir cracked an unbeaten 74, Carl Tiler adding 53no in the Northfield Lane men's reply.

The only century-maker in the top flight was Elsecar's Luke Townsend, who whacked 13 boundaries in his 102, out of a home total of 249-5, visitors Barnsley were sent back for 134, teenager Benjamin O'Brien making 51 and Daniel Rafiq 41, wickets well-shared.

Hallam couldn't have been optimistic after falling for 116 to the bowling of Phoenix's Denaish Raheja, 5-17, but the away batsmen also failed at the crease, dismissed for 83, Jesse Hemingway 3-16.

Wath picked up five points from their trip to Whiston, the hosts stalling at 195-9, Asadullah Butt hitting 67, and with Rob Barlow and Paul Wilkinson each claiming three wickets. Wath eased to victory at 197-4, all-rounder Lesroy Weekes hammering an unbeaten 97 and Steve Reynolds 61no.

Top bowler of the day was Treeton B stalwart George Barnes, with 7-26 in the Division One win over Coal Aston, Wath's Mark Barlow also taking seven wickets, for 40, against Warmsworth in Division Two.

Thorncliffe father and son Roger and Paul Jezusek each hit half-centuries, Roger making 52 in the Division Four win at Rotherham Town, and son Paul cracking 56 in the Division Two loss to Elsecar B, a game which saw Elsecar opener Adrian Meadows smash 106 with 16 boundaries.
