Greaves goes nap in hitting landmark

Two more batsmen passed the 1,000 run mark on the final day of the Division One season.

Farsley’s Joe Greaves scored his fifth century and took his tally of runs to 1,019 as he helped his side to a seven-wicket win over Gomersal which ensured they took runners-up spot.

Woodlands opener Scott Richardson reached the landmark as he made 15 as the champions lost by five wickets to Bradford & Bingley – only their fourth defeat.

Twenty-year-old Greaves smashed five sixes and 12 fours as he raced to an unbeaten 103 and with Andrew Duckworth (53), Barrie Frankland (42) and Steve Simpson (39) giving support, Farsley breezed past the Gomersal total of 241-6.

Danny Lloyd (105no) hit a maiden Bradford League century for Gomersal in his final game before emigrating to Australia.

In addition to Richardson reaching 1,000 runs, Woodlands team-mate Tim Orrell passed 10,000 Bradford League runs as he made 20 in his side’s 120.

Richard McCarthy, in what was possibly his last first team appearance for Bradford & Bingley, took 4-46, while Will Briggs picked up 4-60. James Davies hit an unbeaten 47 and Simon Davies made 34 as Bradford & Bingley eased home by five wickets.

East Bierley made sure of third place after beating Undercliffe by 42 runs. Lee Goddard promoted himself to opener and hit 92 in his side’s 203, then Kez Ahmed (4-24) and Chris Elstub (4-47) bowled out Undercliffe for 161.

Opener Mark Gill hit an unbeaten 79 as Pudsey Congs overhauled Hanging Heaton’s 155 to secure a four-wicket win. Former Yorkshire leg spinner Mark Lawson took 4-46 while Nick Bresnan (52) and Joe Fraser (42) were Hanging Heaton’s leading scorers. Off spinner Edward Walmsley picked up 4-49 for Congs.

Pudsey St Lawrence off-spinner Steve Watts took 6-28 as they defeated Manningham Mills by six wickets.

Farakh Hussain (46) and Gulsheraz Ahmed (36) lacked support as Mills were spun out for 142. Adam Waite (39) and Chris Marsden (32no) eased St Lawrence to their target.
