Grounds for reminiscence as county cricket fans visit scenes of old battles

As part of the club’s 150th anniversary celebrations, members of the club’s Supporters’ Association set out yesterday in six cars and headed to different parts of the region to visit and photograph 20 sites where the club has played first-class cricket.

After a send-off from the club’s Headingley ground by new chief executive Mark Arthur, fans made it to grounds and sites of former grounds at Dewsbury, Halifax, Huddersfield, Harrogate, York, Scarborough, Wakefield, Sheffield, Bradford, Middlesbrough, elsewhere in Leeds and two in Hull.

Supporters raised awareness of the anniversary and collected donations in aid of the club’s activities.

Since the Supporters’ Association was founded in 1981, its members have raised almost £100,000.

Most of the funds have been invested by the club in the development of young cricketers such as England internationals Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root.
