Happy Holliday helps Methley stay in touch

AN unbroken 134-run stand between Gary Fellows and Dan Wood steered champions Wrenthorpe to an eight-wicket win against Wakefield Thornes.

Fellows hammered 91 off 69 balls and Wood finished unbeaten on 41 as Wrenthorpe overhauled Thornes’ 163-9 that included a half-century by Sri Lankan Tharindu Perera.

Wrenthorpe are joint leaders with Methley who beat Altofts by 41 runs thanks to Chris Holliday (51), Matthew Waite (38) and Nick Connolly (3-22). Altofts’ defeat was tough on all-rounder Simon Steel (56 and 4-29).

New Farnley and Hunslet Nelson slipped to their first league defeats. Chris Leaf (4-29) and Matthew Williamson (4-15) routed Farnley for 126 after Dan Busfield (5-34) and David McCallum (3-45) had toppled promoted Carlton for 131.

Michael Padgett (47no) led Mirfield Parish Cavaliers to a five-wicket success at Hunslet who were sent reeling from 52-1 to 125 all out by David Winn (6-26).

An unbroken 143-run opening partnership between Tim Walton (71no) and Jonathan Booth (54no) guided Townville to a 10-wicket win against Batley, Muhammed Tahir top-scored with 48.

Jacob Waterson (104no) and Robert Larner (50no) put on 137 as Northowram Fields posted 191-3 at Birstall who managed only 149-8 in reply.

Buttershaw St Paul’s have a six-point lead in Division One after beating Ossett by 66 runs. Chasing 199, Ossett collapsed to 133 all out to Paul Carroll (3-21), Bradley Greenwood (3-44) and James Sawyer (3-30).

Bradley Maguire (115no) and Daniel Bridges (60no) shared a 188-run stand as Oulton inflicted Liversedge’s first league defeat.

John Bowett struck 71 and Chavez Younes (60) as Wakefield St Michael’s maintained their promotion bid by defeating Wakefield Thornes B by 47 runs.

Openers Alan Sumner (113) and Andrew Fortis (100no) helped Moorlands pile up 295-2 in a 156-run win at Methley. Allan OIbison (4-55) and Mark Olbison (3-5) skittled Ardsley for 102 but Tom Chester (6-28) routed East Leeds for 86.
