Hoylandswaine duo cut loose with a flourish

MICHAEL Cranmer and Sarjinder Pal Singh relished a fourth-wicket partnership of 216 for leaders Hoylandswaine, who overcame visitors Skelmanthorpe by 122 runs.

Cranmer hit 16 fours and four sixes in his 127, while Sarjinder had 10 fours and three sixes on his way to 113. Hoylandswaine topped the 300-run mark for the second time this season and Cranmer then took five wickets as Skelmanthorpe were dismissed for 200.

All-rounder Timmy Taylor excelled in Honley’s 184-run eclipse of Slaithwaite. Opener Eddie Wilson smashed 16 fours and a six in his 118 and Taylor’s 88 included 13 fours and a six. Taylor then took a season’s best 7-35 and fellow off-spinner Simon Kelly grabbed 3-7 in 5.1 overs.

Second-placed Shepley cruised to victory by 31 runs at Elland despite a top score of 67 from home opener Fahid Rehman.

Barkisland’s last wicket pair, Jake Finch and Chris Williams, denied Shelley an outright win, Finch making an unbeaten 31.

There was a close finish at Kirkburton, who won by just six runs against visitors Delph & Dobcross, who were bowled out for 148 with three balls left. Opening bowler Usran Malvi took four wickets for the winners and Tom Burkinshaw played his part with an undefeated 45.

Toby Booth and Luke Leonard had an unbroken stand of 132 for Scholes, who defeated bottom of the table Holmfirth by seven wickets at Chapelgate. Booth made 84 and Leonard 52 after Tom Chadwick had taken 5-47 in reducing Holmfirth to 199 all out in the 48th over.

Meltham remain too close to the drop zone for comfort after a four-wicket defeat at Golcar for whom James Howson struck an unbeaten 58.
