Indian Test star Jaffer plunders 10th century DRAKES HUDDERSFIELD

WASIM Jaffer blasted his way through the 2,000 runs barrier for Skelmanthorpe with a 10th century of a remarkable season for the former Indian Test opener from Mumbai.

Jaffer, who had already broken the record for most league and Sykes Cup runs in a season, reached the 2,000 runs landmark by plundering 113 off hosts Delph & Dobcross in a match curtailed by rain. He faced 96 balls and hit 10 fours and eight sixes in the Skelmanthorpe innings of 213-6. Delph had reached 53-1 in the ninth over of their reply when the game was rained off.

Honley captain Robert Moore rarely has an opportunity to show what he can do with the bat but he scored a half-century in an opening partnership of 124 with Simon Kelly against Hoylandswaine. Kelly top-scored with 76, including 12 fours and two sixes. Max Joice was left unbeaten, his 70 containing six fours, and Honley won the 40-overs-a-side match by 115 runs. Tom Craddock bowled economically to take 4-23 for the winners.

Second-placed Shepley saw their title hopes damaged by a 40 runs home defeat against Broad Oak, for whom Steve Rushworth was the hero with an unbeaten 72 and 5-32 runs as he bowled unchanged. Rain reduced the match to 32-overs-a-side.

Holmfirth, marooned at the foot of the table, suffered a nine-wicket defeat at Elland where Lee Baxter and Ryan Robinson enjoyed undefeated half-centuries for the victors.

Scholes suffered a third successive defeat, this time going down by five wickets at Barkisland. Best performers for Barkisland were Gary Colman, who made 68, and Matt Steers who grabbed six wickets.

Kirkburton's losing run continued at Golcar, who won by 42 runs, Leigh Kentish and Steve Whitwam collecting half-centuries. Whitwam also took four wickets.
