Injury blows for key White Rose duo

YORKSHIRE strike bowler Ryan Sidebottom could be out of action for several weeks, but the county have dismissed fears that a hamstring injury will prevent Australian Aaron Finch appearing for them.

Left-arm seamer Sidebottom definitely misses the Championship match against Nottinghamshire, starting at Trent Bridge on Sunday, and will have a scan on the calf he injured in the victory over Worcestershire at New Road earlier this week.

Finch’s injury, sustained playing for Mumbai Indians against Rajasthan Royals, is set to see him miss the rest of the Indian Premier League season.

But Yorkshire’s director of cricket, Martyn Moxon, remains hopeful that Finch will still be able to play for the White Rose this summer and will arrive next month.

“It is disappointing news for him and a great shame that he’ll miss most of the IPL season,” said Moxon.

“We look forward to welcoming him at some stage next month and for him to being fit and ready to play in the Championship and the T20 Blast competitions.”

Of Sidebottom, he added: “Siddy is likely to be missing for several weeks. Once we have the results back from his scan, we will have a better indication of how long he’ll be missing.”
